COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus Infection)

Description

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The virus primarily spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and may include fever, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, and muscle aches. Severe cases can lead to pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and death.

Prevention

1. Vaccination

  • Get vaccinated against COVID-19 to reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization.

2. Wear Masks

  • Wear face masks in crowded or indoor settings, especially where social distancing is not possible.

3. Practice Social Distancing

  • Maintain a safe distance (at least 6 feet) from others to minimize the risk of transmission.

4. Hand Hygiene

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

5. Avoid Crowded Places

  • Limit time spent in crowded and poorly ventilated areas, and consider outdoor gatherings over indoor ones.

6. Monitor Symptoms

  • Be alert to symptoms of COVID-19 and seek testing if symptoms develop or after exposure to an infected person.

By implementing these preventive measures, the spread of COVID-19 can be effectively reduced.
